I will be the first one to say that Birth Photography isn’t for everyone.
Having said that, it is an amazing experience to have the birth of your baby documented. The memories in these images will last a lifetime.
As a photographer, being given the opportunity to capture this once in a lifetime event is a privilege and an honour.
Birth Photography is about tastefully capturing the journey of your labour, as you welcome your baby into the world. It allows dad to be completely present in supporting you through this journey. It gives him the opportunity to be part of the story, to share in the sheer excitement. The first touch, the first breath, the first cry… all those little moments you don’t ever want to forget.
Birth Photography covers natural birth, birth at home and c-section with permission from your doctor. If this is of interest to you, below you will find information on how this session works.
Once you contact me with an expression of interest, we arrange to meet and talk about your pregnancy and journey so far. I usually suggest that you contact me 3 – 4 weeks before your baby is due. It is important that you know all the details so that you can discuss this further with your midwife and doctors.
Once you have cleared birth photography with your midwife and doctor, I will be on call for your birth photography session a week prior to your due date and until your baby is born. This means if you go into labour at any time during that period, I am a phone call away. Even if it is in the middle of the night.
Once I receive your call, I make my to your house or hospital if you are already there. I document the journey and support you receive from your partner and support people. I stay out of the way and let your story unfold. Most of the time you will not even remember that I’m in the room with you, but be assured I am capturing all the little significant moments as they happen. As I honour your trust, in me allowing me to be there with you, you can count on me as another support person.
I will do the coffee run for your partner if needed! Labour and birth does not usually happen as we want it to happen, quick and easy, so there is no time limit that I spend with you. I’m there till your baby is born.
Once your baby is born, I remain with you and your partner, in order to document these first moments. The baby being measured and weighed, capturing all those details. Your first portrait as a new family is one of my favourites.
I then return to visit you and your baby within the first 24 – 48 hours, to capture more special moments. This is the perfect time if you have children already, to capture them meeting their new sibling for the first time.

Below is a recent birth story that I captured at the beginning of this year. We started at the house when labour started and progressed to the hospital just before midnight. Due to no progress, a c-section was required.
If you would like to have a chat with me about your Birth story being documented, please send me an email or give me a call. I would love to meet you and your family so that we can get to know each other and I can answer all your questions in person.
